The genuine criticism

Participation has real cost. Running a connector, achieving certification and adopting the semantic models is a meaningful engineering commitment, and it falls hardest on small suppliers who have the least capacity to absorb it.

That is a structural concern rather than a design flaw, and it is the same concern that arises whenever a large customer imposes a data requirement. Whether managed service offerings reduce it enough for smaller tiers is a question the ecosystem is still answering.
